Hurumanu - Dirty Water experiment
Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.
Water Filtration Plant |
What is filtration?
Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.
Examples are:
- air
- pool
- water
- oil
Materials
1.botel
2.filter paper
3.rocks
4.sand
5.scissors
6.dirty water
Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )
Step 1
Cut the bottle in half
Step 2
Put the top half upside down to make a funnel
STEP 3
Add layers of sand and rocks
STEP 4
Get 1 cup of dirty water
STEP 5
Pour the dirty water into to bottle and see how clean and fast it is
Findings
Write a short sentence about the water every 1 minute.
Include 'How much water has filtered through', 'How fast it is dripping through', and 'How clear the water is'.
Minutes
1. brown water has made its way to the bottom but there are no solids 2.just more water dropping 3. slowly dropping 4. looks like its getting cleaner 5. just getting dirtier
Drops per minute: 33
Watercolour:
Conclusion:
The water that flowed through the filter was light with a brown tinge. The water flowed 33 drops a minute. The bark and soil sat at the top of the pebbles because they can't get through all the pebbles since they are blocking them. the sand helped block more of it then the pebbles.
